Backup internet for liquor and convenience stores
High-volume, card-heavy checkout means every minute offline costs sales. If your ID scanner, lottery terminal, or inventory system depends on the internet, include them in your backup plan.
Checklist
- List every device that needs the internet: POS, ID scanner, lottery terminal, security cameras, ATM.
- Find out which have their own connection (lottery and ATMs often use a separate line from the vendor).
- Put POS and ID verification on the failover router.
- Keep staff trained on what to do when ID scanning is offline, under Texas TABC rules. Check the current requirements with TABC.
